The SRU sulfur pit sweep air header venting to the boiler for incineration needed to be maintained at a minimum of 260 deg. F to prevent the vapor from becoming a solid and plugging the line. The selected technology for heating the line was Controls Southeast Inc. (CSI) ControTrace technology. Advantiv designed the steam/condensate distribution headers and manifolds. This technology requires that condensate flow downhill throughout the ControTrace circuits. ControTrace circuit modeling was done by CSI, they determined each circuit length and quantity of elements. Optimum thermal heat transfer in BTUs is achieved though their specific installation methods. There was a definite learning curve for both the installing contractor and the engineering team to get each circuit installed properly. Testing of each circuit after installation was done to insure the heating levels required were achieved, and they were. The project was a success.
